Client: Ministry of Culture and Sports Area (sqm): 20000
The National Archaeological Museum in Athens is undergoing a striking modernization and expansion. The commission originates from an international competition in which the team participated together. The new extension seamlessly integrates into the surrounding public garden through expansive window frontages, fostering a harmonious dialogue between interior and exterior. ATELIER BRÜCKNER’s exhibition design embraces a minimalist yet impactful approach, presenting historically significant artefacts in distinctive settings that elevate each piece and allow it to tell its own story. Subterranean spaces, shaped by rammed-earth walls, evoke an excavated landscape, where the interplay of light and shadow creates a captivating atmosphere. A fluid spatial sequence guides visitors toward the historic building, enriching their experience of one of the world’s most renowned archaeological collections.
